10K

Today was my first official race. I woke up at 4:00 to feed Lily, get dressed, pump milk, and hit the road at 5:15. I went with a friend and her friend. We ran a 10K in Kingwood. It was a lot of fun and I am proud of myself. I feel like I am in a strong place for being just 4 months post baby. I hope to look back when the half marathon comes and be twice as strong (and 15 pounds lighter). BUT enough about me!
Don't forget I am raising money for an amazing charity so very close to my heart! Please read previous posts! I am only $90 away from my goal!! I can not thank everyone enough for the support. I get such a high from rasing money for this organization.

Today BIG 6

This morning the alarm clock went off at 5:30 am. I met up with my sweet friend Eliza to run at Terry Hershey Park. We completed 6.12 miles and it felt GREAT! I was amazed how easy it felt! I am on week 13 of my training and I have missed maybe 2 runs. During the week I run 30 mins three times a week and every Sat is my long run. I started at 2 miles and now I am at 6. I am always up for a good challenge and I am loving this one!
I had to commit to a $350 fund raising donation weather I raise that much or not. I am so excited to raise money for my charity and that feels better than any run could ever feel! This touches my heart so deeply. I will never forget the day I was told Lily Grace could have Down's. I will never forget that helpless feeling when I called my Dad needing someone to talk to. I was so clueless as to what we may face. So to be able to give to an organization who helps those who actually face having a child with Down's is very rewarding for me.
I am reaching out to family and friends to help me achieve my $350 goal. I also want to thank the people who have supported me..

Why Run..

When I set out to run last year I was grieving this loss of the best person in my life, my Grandma. When I started running I loved it right away. I loved the peace, the calm and alone time. It gave so much opportunity to think, remember, and find inner peace. It gave me something to poor m time and energy into, kind of my way of grieving I guess. I wanted to run in honor of her.

Eight weeks into my training I found out I was pregnant and very much unexpected to say the least! I had to stop running and my energy was directed to my pregnancy. Most of you know from 16 weeks on we knew that there was a possibility that Lily Grace may have Down’s syndrome. A small chance, but no matter how small when it is your child it is there. I knew God would not give me anything I could not handle. My trust and faith only grew stronger through the rest of the pregnancy. She was born with out DS and I went right back to running and training.

Houston Chevron Marathon this year had a lottery system for sign up. I how ever was not a winner and did not get into the regular registration. I looked into running for a charity and when I saw Houston Down’s Syndrome Association it stole my heart right away! Everything happens for a reason and I feel this charity needed me. It could have been me that needed this organization and I want to help raise money for them! Please take a minute to visit the site http://dsah.org/. My goal is to raise $350 that I had to upfront to hold my spot to run. I am reaching out to family and friends to help me help those with Down’s syndrome. Thank you in advance for your help!! If I could get everyone on my face book to donate $1 and my family I would be close to $250 that easy!! You can click on the upper right donate button to donate.
